Supreme Line Artists of the Golden Age

The Disc comes in a beautiful handmade sleeve made from quality paper as shown in the Photo.

Line Artists of the Golden Age
Contained on the CD disc is a collection of out-of-print books whose pages have been scanned and compiled in PDF format. The books on the disc are illustrated by certain line artists of the Golden Age of Book Illustration, who despite whatever may have separated them individually, produced sublime illustrations which have many common traits. All of these artists borrowed from Eastern exemplars: Persian, Indian Chinese and Japanese etc. and, no doubt, from one another as well, whatever they could make use of and even employed exotic eastern conventions for depicting clouds and rocks which they juxtaposed with whatever they inherited from the Classical or Christian traditions. There were new frontiers, virgin paper and untried media to be explored by this new generation of productive secular artists who were now felt freer to use form for its own sake, to borrow unashamedly, and to put their talents to work illustrating non-christian and even pagan material: fairy tales, atavistic fantasies, myths and legends and popular foreign imports like the Arabian Nights and The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayam for an apparently avid readership.
The quality of reproduction both of text and artwork is variable in these books but, be that as it may, this writer believes that it is a hundred times more rewarding to have context for illustrations than to find the disembodied images in a search engine, looking anything but precious, and precious they are and should be, and were.
Where the acquisition of the original book proved difficult or where it seemed fitting to this writer, as in the case of Aubrey Weirdsley, some of the books are compilations of images only. A few illustrations from the books on the disc are shown below and and those images are to be considered a personal selection by this writer.
